Nine marathons and ultras spread across North America and New Zealand produced some of the weekend’s most competitive small-field racing of the year so far. The Wicked Fast Marathon in San Diego set the pace for weekend performances — three men crossed inside 2:51 to stack one of the tightest open podiums of the season. Matt Tuohy turned in the weekend’s second-fastest individual time with a 2:39:51 at the Zip Code 07662 Marathon in Rochelle Park, NJ, and Amelio Chio posted the outright weekend-best men’s time of 2:35:12 in El Cajon.
