⭐️ Training Tip
Reading Your Own Warning Signs: Niggle vs. Injury
Every marathon training block runs through the same test, usually somewhere around week six or seven: you wake up, take the first few strides of your run, and feel something. A tightness behind the knee. A dull ache along the shin. A hot spot in the arch. Your brain immediately asks the only question that matters — is this nothing, or is this the thing that ends my training cycle?
Most runners answer that question badly. They either push through everything because backing off feels like weakness, or they panic and shut down at the first twinge, torching momentum they’ll never fully recover. Both instincts are understandable and both are wrong more often than they’re right. What you need instead of an instinct is a framework — a short, repeatable process for reading your body’s signal and matching it to the correct response, every time, before the decision gets emotional.
That’s what this is: a triage system built around three outcomes — run through it, cut the workout short, or take three days completely off. No diagnosis required, no medical degree, just a disciplined way of asking the right questions in the right order.

👉 Catch up on the past week's results
If you wanted proof that a marathon time means nothing without its context, this was the weekend for it. Seven races went off across six states between Saturday and Sunday, and the results ranged from a runner-up gap of 85 minutes to a photo finish separated by the time it takes to read this sentence — plus two mountain courses where the fastest woman on the day would have out-run every man on the podium except one.

➡️ Featured race you shouldn’t miss
Most marathons ask you to run past scenery. The Back Your Badge Marathon asks you to run through it — literally, through the open bay doors of a working fire station, siren-red trucks parked just off your left shoulder as you pass mile 15. That single moment captures what makes this Plainfield, Indiana race worth the trip: it isn’t a course built around a skyline or a river. It’s built around the people who show up when everything else goes wrong.
